My first triathlon was in June 2010 and although I had only practiced swimming twice and biked a few times (always been a runner) I caught the Tri bug. Unfortunately I didn't quite have the money to start competing again until 2013. This little thing called life was getting in the way, I was busy finishing up my senior year at a private university and then had to work on starting my career in financial accounting! Once I felt settled in life I signed up for what I would really consider my first triathlon..TriRock Austin 2013 Sprint distance on labor day...and then i got a little antsy and signed up to compete in the Iron Girl Austin in June and the Disco Triathlon Olympic in July and oh lord...the Austin Half Ironman in October.
So how did I go from wanting to dabble in triathlons to signing up for my first half ironman in my first real season of competing? I went and watched a friend finish his first Ironman in the Woodlands. I couldn't help but want to do a long distance triathlon after being at that finish line. I had never run further than 10 miles in my life, never biked more than an hour (which at that time was a modest 12 miles) and I hadn't swam at all since my triathlon in 2010, but I did make the great choice to join Austin T3! But my first half ironman is a whole 'nother blog post.
